Beat this Meet

Once in a while, a club night comes along and makes you think, "Jesus shitting christ, that was fucking awesome." I remember that feeling the first time I went to Movement, the first time I went to Procession Sessions (Birmingham, for thems who don't know!), the first time I went to Troublevision. And kick me in the appendix, if I didn't feel it at Beat Redemption, Bournemouth's hot-to-mother-fuxxin-trot Dub'n'Drums'n'Bass earth smasher...

QE got the call to play Redemption a few months back. A chance encounter by r' kid Rhymes and Redemption co-Chieftain Matt Broughton led to an invitation to the South-West country. Two hours of M4 bashing led us up to the Old Fire House. Now, having had a fair few gigs that were below par (read shitty) in the previous months, we didn't want to get our hopes up. However, on entering the venue for our soundcheck, we were literally smashed in the face by vibrant colours, art and cake stands.

For you see, Beat Redemption isn't like most other club nights. Having to compete with the usual slurry that you might find in a Uni city, the Beat has had to carve its own identity by drawing on the unique pool of talent in the region. The result is the transformation of a multi-level student venue into exciting galleries of graphics, live music and expression, with installations around random corners, themed chillout areas, reclaimed spaces and even a Yurt...All you promoters out there who think you put in the extra mile - Beat Redemption tacks on the extra 20, just to be better...

I took a shine to a certain cakestand, manned by some very pretty ladies. The Technicolor Moon Illustrative were on the graff, drawing live for all's pleasure. On the night we played, we also shared the stage with Reso, a proper up'n'coming titan on the scene (he's got a track coming out soon on Hospital Records' Sick Music), who bares an uncanny resemblance to Oli D.A.B of Superfilth!!!...QE loved performing their set, and the dirty dubstep kids approved, much akin to a sweaty roman orgy presided over by a wobbly bassline ceasar. It's no wonder this club night is consistently sold out in advance. It's fucking sick.

We wanted to come back. And by God's Grace (and by that, I mean Matt and Tom) we're back. And with upgrades too! For we're gonna be playing Beat Redemption's first ever festival stage at Beachbreak Festival in Pembrey County Park, South Wales. This is going to be BIG. A nice lil' festival - not too argey-bargey, hoisty or stealing the local's motorcycles-sy, like some other festivals we know. (what...that's not beef) - but we WILL be getting mashup.

Here's the lineup:
BROKE DJS / REVELATION DJS / LOOSE CREW / SHARKBAIT (GET HYPE COLLECTIVE) / MOORED IN MIAMI / DRAMA (URBAN NERDS) / WHITEY & MC FELON / STICKIE DAVIS / GRAEME BATEMAN / RATDEAL / PASTE (DEADLY RHYTHM SOUNDSYSTEM) / TECHNO NOTICE / ZORSE / RENEGADE YOUTH + more TBC!!!

LIVE ACTS
DUFFSTEP 'LIVE' (JOIN THE DOTS) / QUEENS ENGLISH / 8 FOLD / FIRE FARM / LOOSE FIT / JOIN THE DOTS COLLECTIVE / INC & JACKO + more TBC!!!

More details here. You've gotta get on the Beat Redemption vibe. Man's expanded into Brighton and London town, and could be comin to a hood near YOU...

- Shwinn (completely back on this case, blaad)
